What can you change in a demo after recording?

Almost everything a viewer sees. The nVariant editor treats each recorded step as something you can adjust: add hotspots and tooltips that guide the next click, blur or hide sensitive data, zoom into a small detail, and replace text or images on the screen itself.

The editor also controls the shape of the whole demo. Split long tours into chapters, let viewers branch into the path that fits their role, gate later steps behind a lead form or a password, and close with a call to action. Edits publish to the same link, so anyone who already has it sees the update.

Guide

Hotspots, in detail

A hotspot is the unit of guidance in a demo. Shape, trigger, copy, and destination are all yours to set, on any step.

Shape and trigger

Place a callout, a pointer, or an area hotspot, and choose whether it reacts to a click or a hover. Hotspot radius is adjustable so the target lines up with the real control underneath.

Tooltip content

Tooltips are rich text, not plain strings. Write the line the way a rep would say it, add emphasis or a link, and let the built in step counter carry the viewer forward.

Destination

Every hotspot ends somewhere. Move to the next step, start the demo over, or open an external URL such as a pricing page or a booking link.

Fix the demo, not the recording

Product copy changed? Logo out of date? A field showing a real customer name? Patch the step in place. The rest of the demo stays exactly as recorded.

Autoplay that paces itself

Not every viewer wants to click. Turn a walkthrough into a hands off tour, hold one pace across the whole demo or tune each step on its own, and loop it for a booth screen or a landing page hero.

How editing works

1. Record the flow

Capture the product with the Chrome extension. Every click and screen is saved as an editable step.

2. Edit what matters

Add hotspots, blur private data, fix UI copy, set up chapters and the closing CTA.

3. Publish and update

Share the link. When the product changes, patch the affected step instead of re-recording.

Editing habits that lift completion

Small editing choices decide whether a viewer reaches the last step.

1

Write tooltips as instructions

Start each tooltip with a verb and keep it under two lines. Click Invite to add your team works better than a paragraph about collaboration.

2

Blur before you share

Check every step for names, emails, and account numbers. Blur regions stay attached to their step when you edit the rest of the demo.

3

Put the form after the value

Gate the demo after the step that shows the outcome, not on step one. Viewers who have seen the result are more likely to leave an email.

4

Zoom only where the UI is small

Use zoom for dense tables, settings, and small buttons. Zooming every step makes the demo feel jumpy.
